Strategy Consultations & Advisory with Postreality Labs
Explaining how organizations can work with me (and a benefit included for Reality Studies paid supporters)
Anyone who becomes a yearly subscriber is entitled to a one-hour session per year through my consultancy, Postreality Labs. This is a considerable discount on my typical consulting rate. By supporting my work at Reality Studies, yearly subscribers get this additional benefit.
This offer also applies to monthly subscribers for each 12-month period.
I get a lot of inbounds that range from inquiries about consulting rates to requests to “pick my brain.” Hopefully this announcement streamlines things for all of us.
What exactly does Postreality Labs consult and advise on—and who would benefit from such consultations?
I’ve had an unconventional career, granting me niche expertise at the intersection of foresight, art, media, and technology. For an in-depth look at my work history, here’s my LinkedIn. I’ve collaborated with:
Arts institutions like LACMA, MOCA Los Angeles, and the Serpentine Galleries
Tech companies like Adobe, Google, and Microsoft
Non-profits and foundations like the Centre for Ecological Remediation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Sundance Institute
The list below includes examples of the kinds of work I’ve done via Postreality Labs. If you think there’s another way I could be helpful, I’m open to hearing about it.
Foresight Strategy
I am a trained futurist. As the Director of Emerging Technology & Insight at Southern New Hampshire University, I led the writing and production of our 2030: Futures of Working and Learning report (2020). I later worked at Institute for the Future, where I remain an affiliate. I’ve collaborated with Multiverse Design on multiple occasions, first to produce a report that debuted at SXSW 2023, then a “Plotting the Polycrisis” foresight workshop for storytellers at SXSW 2024, and most recently a “Futures of Social Interaction” report for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
My current specialization is in collapse, polycrisis, and overshoot. As we’re witnessing in extreme weather events and chaotic political realities, these forces will impact you, your organization, or your company in the years to come. If you want to make sense of these forces, let’s talk—deliverables can look like presentations, interactive workshops, webinars, reports, or some combination thereof.
Art & Technology Strategy
I’ve spent a lot of time being the arts guy in tech rooms and the tech guy in arts rooms, and I’ve learned how to communicate effectively across that chasm. I help arts organizations understand emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, NFTs/web3, XR/the metaverse/spatial computing), and I help tech companies understand how to work with artists ethically.
Media Strategy
I have worked as a journalist in some capacity for 18 years. I know how to help you tell your story more clearly, share it with journalists (in ways that won’t irritate them), and develop overall media strategy (and hygiene). Given my background in tech, emerging media, and foresight—including a stint as a startup founder—I can be especially helpful to entrepreneurs in emerging spaces.
On that note: Writers and storytellers working on speculative and science fiction projects hoping to stress-test/validate premise, terminology, application of technologies, etc., might also benefit from my expertise.
Disclaimers
If you’d like me to consult for a longer duration, we’ll need to agree on the scope in advance (with the first half hour included in the cost of the subscription).
I have no idea yet how popular this will be, but in the event I have the (wonderful) problem that demand is overwhelming, I want to state the following. If at any point I decide to change this policy in the future, I’ll still honor the commitment with existing subscribers who have not yet taken me up on their offer in that year.
